Hello World GPSPaddler

First post from this blog.

Since Jan 2007, I have been using a GPS for my paddling activities (Dragon Boating and Outrigging).

Over time I have developed a few tools to help analyse the output files. Started out with Excel and VBA, but the transition from Excel 2003 to 2007 broke everything. Decided then to move away from Excel and redeveloped everything using Python and Reportlab with the ultimate aim of creating an online service to produce the resulting files and graphs (see below for an example). Python/Reportlab were also chosen as it appears to fit in well with the Python based Google Application Engine.

Have recently found a very nice Python-based GPX library and feel this will be the basis for developing GPSPaddler further. The library is called:
It appears to be under active development and I have already started using it to see what is needed to extend it's capabilities to that which will be needed for the open source GPSPaddler.

The time has come to say Hello World for GPSPaddler.
